Close persons and friends may appreciate a list of all things Newt Scamander-related, to help them understand how to care for this unique creature. Here is a composed list, which shall be ongoing. Fantastic Wizards and Where to Find Them: A Field Guide – pg 2.
Care and Keeping:
- Occasionally, your Newt will engage in a bout of movement and gyration known as ‘dancing.’ This is especially likely when listening to the musician Louis Armstrong, or any other form of jazz. This is another sign of a content Newt, and this activity should be allowed to continue for as long as is appropriate, i.e. must be interrupted if pressing matters arise, such as an upset creature, or being late to dinner arrangements.
- Uncommonly seen, an anxious Newt will be quite reclusive and withdrawn. Main indicators will include silence, pacing, and disappearances which can range from several hours to several days. Try not to be alarmed, as this Newt needs a bit of space to sort out his thoughts, much like a frustrated Newt. See pg. 1. While this Newt will also return on his own, he is likely to be embarrassed pf his behaviour, and as such it is very important to act in a calm and regular fashion around him for a moderate length of time, until behaviour is returned to normal.
- While quite capable in many aspects, your Newt should not, under any circumstance, be allowed unsupervised in the kitchen. The likely results of this can include, but are not limited to: broken dishes, spilled condiments, scorch marks, and one food poisoned magizoologist. In the event of such a situation, be prepared with both extinguishing spells and reparation charms.
- You may, at times, happen upon your Newt singing. Most common instances will usually be while tending to the youngest of his creatures. While the song of Newt is quite beautiful, it should not be praised, nor applauded. It is best to not be seen at all, as Newt can be quite shy about this particular activity.
- In the rare occurrence, Newt may fall asleep in a creature habitat while working. If you come across this Newt, do your best to coax him to bed. Note: This will be an extremely clingy Newt, who may refuse to part with your person once situated. It’s best to wait this out and use this time for napping, as any attempt to extricate yourself from the grasp of a sleeping Newt will prove futile.
