“I think that it has become a photobook that I’ve put the most spirit into up to this point because would like to show the fans what’s going on in my head as well as [what’s going on in] my life. The meaning of [the photobook and it’s] title is that this is an invitation [put together] with the purpose of showing [everyone] the workings of [what’s going on in] my head.”

By Sato Ryuji about the concept of “Reception”

Today is the release date for Sato Ryuji’s 3rd photobook “Reception”, which he conceptualised himself. This photobook is essentially Ryuji’s invitation to his fans to get to know him better through the six stories about himself that he put together; there is no better Valentine’s gift than this honestly.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! ♥

@ryuji7117

Truly, thank you very much for [attending] my photobook release events over the past 3 days.

I hate saying overly dramatic things, but to be able to speak with everyone, I really was very happy.

As for myself today, no matter what, I wanted to meet with the master, so I went and met with the master of Toumyu. [1]

Actually, Kayano-san, he is kinder and more gentle than the rumours say [he is].

NOTE:

[1] Sato Ryuji uses the word “master” here in the context of Touken Ranbu. He uses the phrase “the master of Toumyu” to refer to the director of the Musical Touken Ranbu, Kayano Isamu, who can also be considered as the saniwa of the Toumyu citadel because of his role xD

First of all, I absolutely love the main visual of the new performance! The color scheme is just… O.O!!

The thing I did want to talk about is the title of this musical.

結びの響、始まりの音

Unless my brain is imagining things, it gives away a lot about what we may expect of this new musical story.
For starter’s, let just break it down!

結び [musubi]

(from the verb 結ぶ [musubu], to tie up; to conclude; to form; to draw to a close; to join hands; to unite)

  1. a knot; a tie
  2. an end; a close; a conclusion

結びの The last; the concluding

響 [hibiki]
(from the verb 響く [hibiku], to be heard far away; to linger; to last; to reverberate; to remain with sb; to stay with sb; to affect)

  1. a sound; a noise; a bang; a roar
  2. an echo; a reveberation

始まり [hajimari]

(from the verb 始まる [hajimaru], to begin; to start; to be born; to arise; to originate)

  1. the beginning; the start; the opening; the origin

音 [oto]

  1. a sound; a noise

Musubi no hibiki…

Just for the first half of this title, there are so many translations I could give. The double meaning of musubi implies an ending, but also a bond. Hibiki is an echo, a reverberating noise. It implies something that is no longer, but still resounds. So most probably, this part of the title refers to the end of the Shinsengumi. Although fallen apart in the final days, those who remained still fought what they believed to be right. In those final days, what remained of the Shinsengumi was a mere echo of what it used to be. So, after thorough consideration, I would like to translate this part as: “A Dying Echo”

The second half of the title is a lot more straightforward and I would like to translate it as “The Sound of a New Beginning”. I’m personally guessing this part of the title refers to the Meiji Restoration. Which is the end of the Shogunate and the restoration of Imperial rule…

A Dying Echo, the Sound of a New Beginning

So looking at this title, where does that leave us?
If I’m not mistaken, this title puts us straight at the Battle of Hakodate and the death of Hijikata…

If you take a look at the cast list, this makes sense. We still have four actors without a designated role. The only familiar name is Takagi Tomoyuki, Hijikata’s actor. During the Battle of Hakodate, both Kondo and Okita were no longer around, so it makes sense they are no longer part of the cast. (I don’t believe in re-casts)

So, there you go! I think it’s time to prepare ourselves for a very heart-wrenching story! Also, judging from the likely story-line and the main visual, I’m also guessing Izuminokami will be our next team captain.

Can we PLEASE remove the stigma for blue collar work in America?

“You don’t wanna be a garbage collector when you grow up, do you?”

$34,000 a year, no college needed?

God forbid you take an honest job $7,000 above Michigan’s average cost of living line.

“You don’t wanna be a ditch digger.”

Bitch, I was making $15 an hour, post tax, doing exactly that, the fuck is wrong with it? (Other than it was physically exhausting.)

We need to help America, as a whole, understand that college is not, and should not be he only option, and that there is NO SHAME in trade school or even getting a career right out of high school.

I, personally, know plumbers making $80,000+ a year. Better than most 4 year degree workers.

We need plumbers, janitors, truck-drivers, garbage collectors, machinists, to keep this nation running smoothly. And they deserve respect for what they do.

Miss me with your classist bullshit.

“You cannot demand services and then degrade those who provide those services.”

Not sure who said that it but it has always stuck with me because hell it is so true.

Respect.
